The filmmaker credits Shah Rukh Khan and Aditya Chopra for his decades-long storytelling journey.
 

It’s been almost 3 decades since we saw Karan Johar start special audiences with some of cinema’s most touching testimonials. His journey began behind the scenes in 1998, when he made his directorial debut with the iconic Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, as the assistant director of Aditya Chopra's Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge.

 

A tribute taken in words and memories

Karan Johar took to his Instagram and shared a collage of his proposal pictures with Shah Rukh Khan and Aditya Chopra. The photos were accompanied by a long emotional caption, in which the director recalled the life-changing conversations that changed the course of his destiny.

Karan revisited an important reminder of his teens that he turned about of a us of one to get away for further investigation when Aditya Chopra intervened. 1 to 13 Early in the morning, Aditya asked him to come with the crew of the Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge as assistants.

"He suggested me that I should be a director. I should be melodramatic and cinematic. He said if I don't follow this direction, I will create a big mistake," Karan declared. After that sleepless night, a determined Karan approached his father legendary producer Yash Johar and cordially requested him to present 365 days to follow this dream.

He candidly recalls his father’s reply, ‘Beta, did you know what to do hard and fast?’ Yash Johar further explained that though he was supposed to be a producer on instructions, he wanted to be a director with a true passion for cinema and storytelling.

 

Shah Rukh Khan's Leap of Faith

The second transformative interaction Karan revealed turned out to be with his ‘brother’ Shah Rukh Khan. Karan recalled how Shah Rukh firmly promised him that he could do Celebrity within the first real film that Karan directed. “He toughened up and followed my father when we were told to return to India. My father wasn’t sure either way,” the director said, noting how Shah Rukh’s unwavering faith helped strengthen his leadership.

 

A grateful conclusion

Concluding by telling his powerhouses to be aware, Karan wrote, "I love you Adi and bhai. I am here with my strengths and flaws, my ups and downs, my wins and my losses. Only because of each and every one of you. You both are the simplest reason why I can express my wisdom today #happygurupurnima."

Beyond his private gurus, Johar additionally showed a huge shout out to every guru who gave it in advance, recognizing those who selflessly create careers for others.
