Sunny Deol Opens Up About Rs 55.9 Crore

          Actor Sunny Deol has spoken candidly about the financial struggles he faced during the tough stretch of his career, along with the debt that the e-auction entailed being aware of being issued against his Juhu Villa. The legal liability of 55 million ISK stems from films that he financed himself instead of cash that he borrowed from others.

          In 2023, soon after the box office of Ghadar 2 opened to huge backlash at the workplace, a bank issued an e-public sale to be aware of Sunny’s Mumbai assets, and withdrew the note after the actor agreed to fix the amount later on accrued interest and goodwill.

'I had all the money I owed'.
          Speaking on Shubhankar Mishra's podcast, Sunny explained the nature of the debt and stressed that in my opinion, he does not owe anyone cash and is fully responsible for financial obligations.

          "I can't do so much for cash. But to be very honest, I am very happy. Even though I am in debt, I have been very contenting. I have made my existence an estate," the actor said.

          He said, "All the money I owed was mine. I did not borrow from any person. I owed absolutely nothing to everyone. I only needed to support my own property and repay less”.

Cost of prescriptive firms.
          The financial burden stems from Sunny’s choice to finance his own directorial work. The actor had taken a loan during the making of the 2016 action film Ghayal Returns which he also directed and starred in.

          Ghayal Returns was the second of Sunny’s three directorial credits. He had earlier directed the 1999 romantic drama Dillagi, in which he was seen alongside his younger brother Bobby Deol, and later directed the 2019 romantic Pal Pal Dil Ke Pass, which marked the acting debut of his son Karan Deol .

          None of the three films did well in the field work, which put considerable financial strain on the actor.

Reflecting on career highs and lows
          During the podcast, the 68-12-month-old veteran also reflected on the period after the success of the film in the early 2000s, when he struggled to find the right subjects and film crew .

          Looking back to 2001, Sunny talked about his Ghadar, which was released alongside Aamir Khan's Lagaan and emerged as a huge fulfillment, grossing around Rs 77 crore locally. He additionally revealed the overall performance of Bhartiya, which released later that year, collected around Rs 43 crore in India, compared to Rs 34 crore for Lagaan.

           "With Ghadar, I also introduced Indian, which is a much bigger hit than Lagaan and all the different films of that time. It was 3 times the commercial effort of Lagaan. Ghaddar did much more than that," claimed Sunny.

The Changing Face of Bollywood

          Despite those successes, Sunny said the corporate-studio show changed his career and changed the way films are made

          "Suddenly, companies came in and the shape of the film industry started changing. But after that, I don't know why I didn't find the right subjects and producers," he said.

          Sunny also recalled the problems with the 2005 film Jo Bole So Nihal which was withdrawn after protests and political controversies. He said such incidents additionally affect the trajectory of his career.

          Meanwhile, Sunny is currently seen in Batwara 1947 opposite Preity Zinta, Ali Fazal, Shabana Azmi and Karan Deol. The partition drama clashed with Emraan Hashmi's Awrapan 2 at the box office.
