Narnia: The Magician's Nephew Release Date

Netflix has announced two major release dates for the film.

Theatrical release: February 12, 2027
Netflix streaming release: April 2, 2027
IMAX sneak previews: February 10, 2027

The planned theatrical release makes the project a notable step for Netflix, which is giving the film a major cinema launch before its streaming debut.

What Is the Story About?

Unlike the earlier Chronicles of Narnia films, this story travels back to the beginning of the magical world.

The plot follows Digory and Polly, two children who discover a way to travel between different worlds. Their adventure takes them into a mysterious realm where they witness the creation of Narnia.

The story also introduces audiences to important characters connected to Narnia's origins, including the magician Andrew Ketterley and Jadis, who later becomes known as the White Witch.

The film is based on The Magician's Nephew, a novel published in 1955 by C. S. Lewis.

Narnia: The Magician's Nephew Cast

The film brings together new faces and established Hollywood stars.

The announced cast includes:

David McKenna as Digory
Beatrice Campbell as Polly
Emma Mackey as Jadis
Daniel Craig as Uncle Andrew
Carey Mulligan
Ciarán Hinds
Meryl Streep as the voice of Aslan

Greta Gerwig serves as the film's writer and director. The project brings together a large ensemble for a new interpretation of the fantasy universe.

What Does the First Trailer Reveal?

The first trailer gives viewers an early look at the film's magical settings, characters and large-scale fantasy visuals. It introduces the idea of travelling between worlds and hints at the events surrounding Narnia's creation.

One notable feature is its use of Led Zeppelin's Stairway to Heaven. The music adds a distinctive atmosphere to the trailer and reflects the film's sense of wonder and adventure.

Rather than revealing the entire story, the preview focuses on the film's world-building and the journey that leads to Narnia's beginning.

Why Is This Narnia Film Different?

The new film adapts The Magician's Nephew, which explores events before the story told in The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. This gives viewers a chance to discover how the fantasy world began.

Greta Gerwig's involvement has also attracted attention because of her work on character-driven films and large-scale productions. The new adaptation combines a familiar literary property with a fresh creative approach.

Whether the film appeals to longtime readers or viewers discovering Narnia for the first time will become clearer after its release.
