Ranveer Singh Gets Clean Chit
Following requests from industry bodies, FWICE lifted the ban,
saying the decision was ‘not linked to that legal notice’.
MUMBAI: The Federation of West Indian Cinema Employees (FWICE) has
withdrawn its “non-cooperation order” against actor Ranveer Singh, just a week
after he quit. The choice comes in the wake of a letter of reprimand sent by
the actor to the film company, although FWICE believes that dismissal is not
always the end result of legal pressure.
The directive was changed at the beginning of the issue after Singh
walked out of Farhan Akhtar's Dawn 3 in December 2025, causing huge financial
losses to the production house Excel Entertainment .
Why was the instruction withdrawn?
According to Ashok Pandit, Chief Advisor, FWICE, the selection
followed calls from various film bodies such as the Indian Motion Picture
Producers Association (IMPPA) and Cinema and TV Artists Association (CINTAA).
Pandit told reporters in Mumbai on Wednesday, “After our last press
conference, we inquired from different film houses for their mentor and we were
given feedback from IMPPA and the Producers Association of India.
While the Indian Producers Association condemned Singh's
last-minute exit, IMPPA requested the film industry's larger hobby to quash the
directive
“Considering their seduction and larger interest in the film
venture, we are immediately revoking the directive against Ranveer Singh,”
Pandit offered
He also appealed to Singh, Accel Entertainment and all the film houses to take a seat together and resolve the issue amicably so that neither of the birthday parties are short-changed
Legal notices have been received, but there is no pressure, says FWICE
FWICE has confirmed that it has received criminal notices for
Ranveer Singh and veteran producer TP Aggarwal. But the agency acknowledged
that the withdrawal had involved legal compulsion.
"We have no longer caved under any stress. We are a 70-12
months vintage company and functions receive many crime reports. We just need
all parties to expedite the matter and settle it amicably," said FWICE
chairman BN Tiwari.
Once we issued the message, we expected Ranveer to reveal.
But his team has made a mistakeTiwari said.
Businesses demand a friendly solution
Cinta general secretary and popular TV actor Upasna Singh addressed
the media in support of the cancellation.
"It is our responsibility to see that artists are followed.
The film industry is a tribe. We also have several domestic disputes at home,
but that doesn't mean we have to escalate it at every opportunity. We don't
have to reveal that we are going to court," she said.
She also praised Singh for his contributions to the industry,
pointing to his current spate of blockbusters reviving the success of the
container workplace. "We want such actors. Even my son has seen these 5
examples. An acting career helps the career of so many technicians and
spotboys," she offered.
Less than an hour after the FWICE press conference, the Federation
of Indian Manufacturers also issued a statement calling on both sides to settle
the matter amicably.
Background: Ranveer Singh's exit from Don three
In August 2023, Farhan Akhtar announced Dawn 3, the 0.33-episode of
the famous crime thriller series, where Ranveer Singh entered the title slot at
the beginning of the release using Shah Rukh Khan.
However, Singh’s deal with Excel Entertainment has not been
completed for more than a year from the announcement now. Tons of
collaborations during that period have worked out in a verbal agreement on an
agreed basis, and seen successful past pictures with Akhtar in Singh’s Dil
Dhadakne Do (2015) and Gully Boy (2019).
While script rewrites and pre-production continued sporadically,
production changed to start sooner or later in January 2026. Singh was busy
filming Aditya Dhar Dhurandhar’s spy-agent thriller, while Farhan Akhtar was
busy with his journey, in Bahadur’s 21 act
After its theatrical release on November 24, 2025, Farhan again
wrapped up pre-production with Singh for the trio Dons. According to sources,
Singh participated in movement training and dress rehearsals, which were paid
for using Excel Entertainment. Within every week of the smash hit release on
December 5, 2025, Singh participated in script analysis sessions with Farhan.
But a day after the one-day test was cancelled, Singh informed
Farhan over mobile that he wanted Don three out. This came within 15 days of
the launch of Dhurandhar — which earned over ₹1,300 crore internationally.
Sources said the decision came after booking more than 200 team participants to
visit remote locations for the first photo shoot in January 2026 .
reasons to go
Sources report more than one motive for Singh’s unexpected
departure, including:
• Budget and revenue cuts
• Lack of satisfaction with the final manuscript
• Limited availability of Farhan Akhtar in previous years for
script development
According to Variety, the budget of Don 3 has reportedly been cut
in half — from over ₹300 crore to nearly ₹150 crore. Singh also allegedly did
not receive the signing amount.
Excel Entertainment Appeal, Arbitration Failure
Following an adverse response from Singh’s team, Excel
Entertainment filed a complaint with the Producers Association of India.
Several rounds of assessment followed involving industry insiders including
Aamir Khan and former Manufacturers Association president Siddharth Roykpur .
Singh attended a few of those conferences and rejected Accel’s
claim of ₹45 crore as compensation — the amount spent on pre-fabrication. Singh
reportedly offered them ₹10 crore and 25% reduced price for their subsequent
collaboration work, a proposal which Accel reportedly rejected. The arbitration
ended in adjournment.
Excel then escalated the problem to FWICE. After hearing Excel’s
case and reviewing the supporting files, FWICE invited Singh to present its
case. Now, despite 3 regular reminders every 10 days, the actor did not
respond.
Immediately after FWICE began its press conference, Singh’s counsel
walked out, saying he had no jurisdiction over the agency. But FWICE issued a
non-cooperation order last week discouraging its more than 500,000 participants
from participating with Singh until he resolves the issue in my opinion.
Legal Implications
Sanjay Vasudevan, a media and entertainment lawyer, informed SCREEN
that FWICE, an alternative organization, is no longer a statutory framework and
has no valid offense in “banning or excluding” Ranveer Singh, forcing him to
engage in debates, or restricting its members from respecting such order.
He submitted that the actor has engaged in criminal behavior
towards the film establishment amounting to an inquiry into his employment
rights as follows:
• Section 3(3)(b) of the Competition Act.
• Article 19(1)(g) of the Indian Constitution.
• Section 27 of the Contract Act .
