'He took the bullet': Amal Mallik on why Salman Khan sang 'Main Hero Tera'

Amal Mallik on why Salman Khan sang Main Hero Tera

The musician recalled how the celebrity overcame his inhibitions to produce his own song to provide the charts for the 2015 film ‘Hero’.

Composer Amal Mallik has finally shared the untold story behind choosing Salman Khan to lend his voice to the hit romantic tune “Main Hoon Hero Tera”. In a recent report, Mallik revealed that the Bollywood icon was not initially meant to sing the tune, however after stepping up to the microphone, he now describes it as “taking a bullet” for the group.

“He knew the dangers,” Mallick said. "Singing a full-length romantic song when you don't have a singer now is like walking into a storm. The trolling, the comparisons —he was ready to pass anything.

So, I'd say he took shots. He basically did it to navigate the film, the recruits and my job as a composer."

Recorded in Salman's distinctive, husky voice, the track was considered one of the most important hits of 2015.

Mallik also said that Salman’s gesture had a lasting impact on him. "In an industry where everyone wants to play it safe, he put himself on the line." He didn't need to sing it — a trained singer could accomplish that — but he wanted to show his non-public touch. He is Salman Khan to you. He stands up to criticism if it means helping one person.

The musician's revelation gave fans a glittering angle onthe favorite track, highlighting the bond between the celeb and his crew thatoften stays hidden behind the glamor of chartbusters.

Mallik explained that in themaking of Hero — a Salman Khan-assisted film starring newcomers Suraj Pancholi and Athiya Shetty — the crew needed an effective publicity push and the track required sensitive, emotionally charged delivery.
