The Supreme Court rejected Shah Rukh Khan's petition to restore
Mannat.
Great relief for the actor
Actor ShahRukh Khan along with his relatives got a major punishment relief when the
Supreme Court on Tuesday strongly rejected his petition to renew the vows in
his iconic Mumbai home. The Supreme Court decision clears the way for the
proposed conversion of a landmark bungalow in Bandra.
The Petition and Background
The petition was filed through Mumbai-based activist Santosh
Daundkar, who had protested the removal of the coastal regulation zone (CRZ)
assigned to the mission. Daundkar argued that the approval violated
environmental regulations and coastal area guidelines.
Notably, the activist had earlier approached the National Green
Tribunal (NGT), which had already rejected his appeal in September 2025.
Following the setback, Daundkar moved the case to the Supreme Court.
Supreme Court's Observations
On Tuesday, July 14, a Supreme Court bench comprising Justices
Suryakant, Joymalya Bagchi and V Mohan refused to overturn the NGT's advance,
brushing off Daundkar's appeal and additionally speculating on the credibility
of the petition itself.
During the hearing, senior advocate Shoeb Alam, representing the
petitioner, argued that the case really should not be treated differently as it
involved a particular film megastar. He also revealed that Daundkar had earlier
exposed the Adarsh housing scam and turned out to be a decent worker in
his own right.
The bench, however, made it clear that Shah Rukh Khan's film star
fame had no reference to his selection. "We are in no way motivated by all
this," Justice Joymalya Bagchi discovered during the course of the
proceedings.
Renovation Project Details
Shah Rukh Khan has now got
the necessary criminal record to maintain and develop Mannat. Proposed drawings
show that two residential floors have been added to the existing form.
The properties
have been considerably developed and preserved, but the mining circle of
relatives has been temporarily relocated to an alternative home.
Mannat: A Cultural Landmark
Mannat stands as one
of the most recognizable celebrities in every city of Mumbai and has long been
an important vacation spot for Shah Rukh Khan’s committed fans who throng
outside the Bandra bungalow on his birthday on the 12th of every month, hoping
to catch a glimpse of the celebrity.
In what has surely become one of Bollywood’s most enduring fan
traditions, with Khan ritually stepping onto the balcony of his residence to
greet the gang, Mannat is just making the extra journey from home — it’s a mile
that symbolizes the deep bond between the actor and his fans.
