Bobby Deol's Bandar hits ₹3 crore on day 5 stays slow

Bandar box office collection day 5: Anurag Kashyap's film starring Bobby Deol sees no major boost and crosses ₹3 crore.

Bandar box office collection day 5: The film features Bobby Deol as Samar, a singer-actor whose career is in decline. Anurag Kashyap's Bandar continues to struggle at the box office. The director showcases Bobby Deol in his grittiest role, with the film releasing in theatres last Friday. Although Bandar received praise from critics and some positive feedback from audiences for its gritty storytelling and performances, that acclaim has not translated into box office earnings.

Bandar shows no growth. The latest update from Sacnilk indicates that Bandar collected only ₹33 lakh on its fifth day in theaters. This shows little growth from the ₹30 lakh it earned on Monday. The film's highest single-day collection was ₹1 crore on Sunday. This brings the total gross in India to ₹3.63 crore and the net to ₹3.08 crore so far. Bandar is a gritty, character-driven film with a specific audience, so it was not expected to have a big opening. Positive word of mouth on social media helps, and Bandar is fortunate to receive it. However, the film faces tough competition from other releases like Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai, the Hollywood film Obsession, and the Telugu film Peddi starring Ram Charan.

About Bandar: The story draws inspiration from a real-life case involving a popular actor. It focuses on Samar, a singer-actor whose career is declining. His life takes a shocking twist when he is suddenly arrested after Gayatri (Sapna Pabbi) files a rape complaint against him. This leads to a legal circus where Samar, the 'bandar,' must navigate numerous challenges, even as he claims there was consent. As the case gains traction, his personal life begins to crumble, trapping him in a system that seems predetermined.

In August last year, Anurag shared his experience with Bobby in an interview with Sudhir Srinivasan on his YouTube channel. “It was complete surrender for someone who has been a star for so long. After experiencing a lull in his career, he chose Bandar over big mainstream movies because he wanted to be vulnerable. He is incredibly vulnerable in the film, so emotionally exposed. In every scene, he works alongside fantastic actors. Bandar features many theatre actors and great performers from various languages, including five National Award winners,” he said.
